Friday open thread: Which Lions-Falcons players will boom and bust in fantasy this week?

Fantasy points galore!

Oh man. The Detroit Lions are probably involved in more lucrative fantasy contests than most teams given the pieces on offense and the leaky defense, but even so, few matchups are as enticing as this week’s battle with the Falcons. Both squads have a great quarterback, tons of weapons at the skill positions, and are desperate for a win. This could end up being a memorable shootout.

This week might be the highest that experts have been on the Lions all year. Matthew Stafford (QB8), Kenny Golladay (WR6), and T.J. Hockenson (TE4) are all excellent plays against Atlanta and are gaining more recognition each week. Meanwhile, we finally see D’Andre Swift (RB19) surpass Adrian Peterson (RB28) after his breakout game last week.

Unfortunately for Lions fans, a lot of the same could be said about the opposing offense. Matt Ryan (QB7), Todd Gurley (RB11), Julio Jones (WR4), and Calvin Ridley (WR5) are set up for a big game against the questionable Detroit defense. Hayden Hurst (TE13) is not a terrible option either.

Today’s Question of the Day is:

Which Lions-Falcons players will boom and bust in fantasy this week?

My answer:

I know people are down on Ryan this year, but this week seems like a top-five performance waiting to happen. It is possible that both Jones and Ridley end up as elite plays, but chances are that one will end up with a bigger day than his fellow receiver. However, the guy throwing them the ball is nearly assured a strong performance against the Lions secondary.

While I am a long-term believer in Swift, I am looking to pump the breaks here a little. He still is splitting the snaps with two other backs and Matt Patricia could prefer to run the ball with Peterson to try to shorten the game. He may not be a true bust this week, but temper expectations a bit after his showcase last weekend.
