Last week, the Detroit Lions caught us by surprise. Yes, the Jacksonville Jaguars aren’t a good team, but coming out of the bye, the Lions looked just as bad, and it appeared the Matt Patricia era may be nearing its end.
But a convincing win over any NFL team—no matter how bad—will do a lot of good to the soul. The Lions are now 2-3, which doesn’t sound nearly as bad as 1-4, and there’s still a faint chance this season is completely salvaged. With a soft schedule ahead, the next few games are absolutely essential, and it starts this Sunday in Atlanta.
The Falcons are somehow just 1-5 on the season, but they’re coming off their only win last week, and it, too, was in convincing fashion. Again, it comes with the caveat of a horrible opponent (the 1-5 Vikings), but in this league you don’t get a lot of blowout wins.
So what does that mean when these two teams face off this Sunday? Our staff really isn’t sure. Five of us are taking the Lions to pick up a road upset victory, while eight of us think the Lions fall back to Earth in Week 7. There is one consensus between us all, however. Every single staff member predicted this to be a one-score game. So prepare for another nail biter this week.
