Lions vs. Falcons prediction of the week: 75-point shootout in the dome

Both teams have had nonexistent defenses and potent offenses all season.

It has been a running joke for several weeks now that the Lions-Falcons game is just going to be each team going back and forth blowing fourth-quarter leads. It’s very feasible that that’s the case on Sunday. As I like to describe it, this Week 7 matchup will be whatever happens when a stoppable force meets a movable object. The official over-under line is 54.5. You think that’s high? Watch this:

Bold prediction of the week: Lions and Falcons combine for over 75 points Sunday

The Falcons have already put up 39 and 40 points in a couple of their games, the latter coming just seven days ago. The Lions, on the other hand, put up the highest offensive point total of Matt Patricia’s tenure with 34 points against the Jaguars, just a week after they put up 29 against the Saints.

It looks like Matthew Stafford is coming back to form, and with Julio Jones playing for the Falcons on Sunday, we’re poised to have two fiery offenses going at it in the Mercedes Benz dome. I’m betting that the first team to 35 points wins.

The only thing that may stop a 75-point shootout is if the Lions defense shows up Sunday the way they did against the Jaguars. That would make it a whole lot harder for Matt Ryan and Co. to put up such high numbers, but then again, the Lions’ best answer for Julio Jones is Amani Oruwariye, so who knows? Anything can happen.
