Thursday open thread: Who will lead the Lions in sacks this season?

Which pass rusher will step up?

The last Detroit Lions player with 10 or more sacks in a season was Ezekiel Ansah in 2017.

Only four Lions players have a sack this season. Two are linebackers and two are defensive lineman. Romeo Okwara has come on strong in the last few weeks, notching four sacks on the season so far, and Trey Flowers has two.

That’s why it was no surprise when the Lions went and traded for Everson Griffen from the Cowboys earlier this week. Griffen has started slow by all accounts and still has 2.5 sacks. That’s good enough to rank him second on his new team before even playing a down of football in a Lions uniform.

So, that brings us to today’s question of the day:

Who will lead the Lions in sacks this season?

My answer: I’m tempted to take Griffen, but I’m going with Okwara. I think defenses will focus on taking away Flowers and Griffen and that will open up even more opportunities for Okwara down the stretch.

If it weren’t for a poor tackle on a perfectly timed blitz against the Jaguars, Okwara might be sitting halfway through the season with five sacks.

Will Okwara keep his hot streak alive or will Griffen challenge him as the sack leader?

Your turn.
