The Lions could be getting a few players back in the secondary this week, but a few new names showed up on the injury report Thursday.

It was a mix of good news/bad news for the Detroit Lions with Thursday’s injury report prior to Week 8’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The good news is that starting cornerback Desmond Trufant finally returned to practice after missing the last two weeks with a lingering hamstring injury from the season opener. Trufant was still limited on Thursday, so he may not be ready quite yet.

The bad news is that three new names appeared on Thursday’s injury report: left tackle Taylor Decker (shoulder), running back Adrian Peterson (abdomen) and nickel cornerback Darryl Roberts (groin/hip). All three players were listed as limited for Thursday’s practice, so their progress on Friday will be important to watch.

In the case of Roberts, it may not be too impactful, as it appears starting nickel cornerback Justin Coleman may be on his way back. He’s still on injured reserve, but he’s practicing and head coach Matt Patricia likes his progress thus far.

“He’s getting better every week,” Patricia said on Thursday.

The Lions did just release linebacker Elijah Lee, leaving a spot open to potentially activate Coleman, if he’s ready.

For the Colts, there were three significant changes to the injury report on Thursday. Tight end Mo Alie-Cox returned to practice in a limited fashion after sitting on Wednesday. Alie-Cox currently ranks third for the Colts in receiving yards.

Additionally, linebacker Darius Leonard went from limited to full practice on Thursday. Leonard is one of the Colts’ best defenders on the team, and he has missed the past two games with a groin injury. But it appears he’s on track to play this week.

Finally, starting center Ryan Kelly was downgraded from limited practice on Wednesday to no practice on Thursday. That would be a huge loss to the Colts offensive line, as Kelly is currently the No. 4 graded center by PFF’s standards.

Here’s a look at both team’s injury reports from Thursday.
