The Carolina Panthers host the Detroit Lions this week in a game that doesn’t mean much for the home team, but for the Lions, it could mean everything. Holding onto a 4-5 record—somehow just a couple games out of a playoff spot—the Lions can’t afford a slip up against a team that is still very much in the rebuilding phase of their franchise.
With a first-time head coach and a complete roster overhaul, it’s hard to know exactly what to expect of the Panthers this week with just 10 games and no preseason to work off of. So for this week’s First Byte podcast, we got a very special guest with a very unique perspective of the Panthers to help preview Week 11.
Former NFL cornerback for 14-years and two-time Super Bowl winner Tyrone Poole joined us to break down the Panthers. He also helped give us the perspective of a rookie cornerback like Jeff Okudah and why he may be struggling. Additionally, he gave us the inside scoop on Matt Patricia, as a former Patriot back in Patricia’s early coaching career.
Then, of course, we get to the Panthers. What has worked so far on offense? Why is the team struggling on defense? How have Brian Burns and Derrick Brown—two potential Lions draft picks—performed thus far in Carolina?
Poole answers all those questions plus gives his prediction for Sunday’s game on this week’s First Byte podcast. You can listen to it below, or watch video replays on our Twitch and YouTube channels. Please also consider giving to Poole’s foundation, which aims to build communities through educational outreach and fitness programs. You can also catch Poole on the Bleav in Carolina Panthers podcast.
