The Lions are a banged up team right now, to put it kindly. Their number one receiver in Kenny Golladay is set to miss his third straight game Sunday. Ole reliable Danny Amendola, who is distinctly better than any other slot option on the Lions’ roster, is out, too. D’Andre Swift, just as he’s finding his groove and getting the attention he deserves in the offense, is out with a concussion. Matthew Stafford is showing up to the party without any friends, hoping to still have a good time.
Question of the day: Who will be Matthew Stafford’s go-to against the Panthers?
My answer: I think the obvious choice is T.J. Hockenson, but don’t sleep on Marvin Jones Jr.
Marvin Hall’s deep speed is as clear as ever after torching the last three opponents for over 200 yards on only nine receptions. Carolina should take note of that. Should Hall draw away enough safety attention, the opportunity might arise for Marvin Jones to steal some passes from underneath in the middle of the field.
I would also give attention to Adrian Peterson. Even in a limited role earlier in the season, Stafford has thrown to Peterson at a rate higher than Peterson is accustomed to at this point in his career. With Swift out on Sunday and a lack of deep threats with Golladay out, Stafford may be forced to dump things off to Peterson a little more than he’s comfortable with.
Who do you think will be Stafford’s go-to on Sunday? Let us know in the comments.
