The Lions will be without a few of their offensive skill players against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Among those names is rookie running back De’Andre Swift, who has been the hot hand in the backfield. It’s no secret that Swift has taken over as the Lions’ feature back, so this comes as a huge blow for them, and now they’ll have to rely on Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson to get the job done.
Prior to the changing of the guard at running back, Peterson was the go-to guy on the ground, and Kerryon Johnson was used much more sparingly in the backfield. Despite the decline in production from Peterson, Johnson never really saw that much of an increase in reps.
Which leads us to today’s Question of the Day...
Who will get the most touches at running back for the Lions against Carolina?
My answer: I hate to say it, but I think we will see more of the same from the Lions’ backfield. For some reason, the Lions seem content with giving Peterson the nod over KJ despite his poor play this year. The two are both averaging around the same yards per carry, but Peterson has been the one that has seemingly gotten worse as the weeks go by, and Johnson has proven to be much more effective in the passing game and makes the offense less predictable.
