Do you believe Sheila Ford Hamp can get the franchise turned around?

Since her introductory press conference back in June, Detroit Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp has worked in the shadows. She has reportedly turned down every interview request from the media, and has not made any public statements about the future of the franchise.

But circumstances will undoubtedly pull her into the spotlight in the next month or two. Obviously, it appears the franchise is trending towards making some full-scale changes at the top of the organization, and if—for some reason—Ford Hamp decides against it, she will still have to face the music to explain why.

More than likely, however, it will be on her to not only make a big move, but conduct and extremely important search for the Lions’ new coach and general manager. This is no small task, and it will be a challenging one for someone just a few months on the job, even if Ford Hamp has been close to the franchise for several years now.

So today’s Question of the Day is simple:

Do you trust Sheila Ford Hamp?

My answer: By herself, I do not.

I did come away impressed with both her introductory press conference and especially the profile Michael Rothstein did on her back in September. But I just thinks she’s too new to the game to trust her completely to make the right decision on Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn and then follow it up with a detailed, thorough general manager and head coaching search and hire.

With non-football president Rod Wood by her side, it’s clear to me the Lions need some advisors on staff who know what they’re doing. Ideally, I’m not talking about an Ernie Accorsi consulting type. I’m talking a full-time position for a seasoned NFL front office type helping every step of the way.

Of course, I could be completely off. Maybe Ford Hamp’s dreams of being involved in the NFL has kept her close to the Lions franchise for decades, and maybe she’s learned from the mistakes of her parents. But with literally no track record to go on, I’d sleep a lot better if she brought in some help very soon.

Your turn.
