Friday open thread: Are you rooting for the Lions to lose out?

Or are you sticking it out to see something positive?

A tradition unlike any other. Once the calendar flips past Thanksgiving, more often or not the Detroit Lions are closer to a top draft pick than a playoff spot. Of course there have been a few years of contention, but the reality is that this organization is finding itself near the bottom of the standings far more often than most other teams.

So here we are once again. The playoffs are gone, the coaching staff is surely on its way out, and the front office is likely to see some shake-ups as well. With five games left to go, the only real question regarding this team is whether or not it is time to start looking to next season yet or if there is anything to gain from the remaining contests.

Today’s Question of the Day is:

Are you rooting for the Lions to lose out?

My answer: I used to be very much in favor of a team tanking, but for whatever reason I am starting to change my stance. Maybe it is the absolute depressing state of all four Detroit franchises right now, or maybe it is due to the Lions consistently whiffing on their high draft picks. Either way, it does not seem like losing out really helps anything.

So I will be hoping for wins over the month of December, since at this point it does not really seem like anything matters for this team. I will not be too sad if the Lions lose, though, and next spring we will all blissfully believe that the next T.J. Hockenson or Jarrad Davis or Jeff Okudah will finally put this team where it needs to be. Good luck!
