Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay appears to have ‘liked’ Matt Patricia’s firing

The first current Lions player has spoken up... kind of.

Though plenty of former Detroit Lions players have spoken up since the team made the decision to fire head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn, current players have been eerily silent. No words of support for the former regime nor any signs of relief.

Well, there was one, 6-foot-4 exception on Saturday afternoon.

As pointed out by Chris Burke of The Athletic, Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay ‘liked’ an Instagram post from the NFL officially announcing the firing of Patricia.

This isn’t the first time Golladay has appeared to express some frustration over the current former Lions regime. Just six weeks ago after a big game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Golladay posted a picture to Instagram with the caption, “This shit gone cost you! Don’t let that go over y’all head...” While the caption is open to interpretation, it does appear to be a reference to his ongoing contract negotiation with the team, which still remains unsolved.

Does this mean that the Lions may have a better chance to sign Golladay to an extension now that Patricia and Quinn are gone? That remains to be seen.

For now, Golladay remains the only current Lions player to make any sort of public acknowledgement of the move from the Lions franchise. That being said, team owner Sheila Ford Hamp did say that players “spoke up in a good way” during a Zoom meeting that introduced offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell as the interim head coach.
