It’s looking more and more likely that the Detroit Lions will be missing three key starters for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers. For the second straight day, wide receiver Kenny Golladay, right tackle Tyrell Crosby and cornerback Jeff Okudah missed practice.
For Golladay, he’s trending towards missing his sixth straight game with a hip injury. On Thursday, interim head coach Darrell Bevell continued to insist he’s getting better and improving, but would not place a timeline on his return.
“There’s a lot of working on the side, and there’s times that we’ll see him out there on the field trying to get work,” Bevell said. “But he’s doing everything that he can to get back. Just as far as the timeframe, I can’t give you enough information on that.”
Crosby absence could leave the Lions vulnerable on the offensive line. With Halapoulivaati Vaitai already on injured reserve, the Lions may have to rely on converted defensive lineman Matt Nelson to play right tackle. Nelson has played twice this year in emergency relief, including last week’s game against the Bears. Though he helped keep Khalil Mack off the box score, Detroit offered him a lot of help in terms of running back and tight end chips.
In positive news, two Lions saw their injury designations improve on Thursday. C.J. Moore returned to practice after missing Wednesday with an ankle injury. He should provide the special teams unit a boost if he can play this week. Additionally, Kerryon Johnson’s status went from limited to full. He should play this week and could see a significant role if D’Andre Swift doesn’t progress from his illness. The rookie running back is still listed as limited.
