The Detroit Lions general manager search continues. With Chris Spielman now on the advisory board, the Lions are set to interview former director of pro personnel for both Washington and the Philadelphia Eagles Louis Riddick, according to Ian Rapoport. Riddick will reportedly interview with the team on Friday.

Riddick has been a popular name among Lions fans. Though he hasn’t been in the front office of an NFL franchise since 2013, he’s been actively involved in the NFL as a commentator for ESPN, including being a part of their “Monday Night Football” crew in 2020.

He also has over a decades worth of experience on the pro scouting side of this. And this isn’t the first time Riddick’s name has popped up for a general manager job. Back in 2017, the New York Giants interviewed Riddick and he nearly won their GM job over Dave Gettleman.

This year, the Lions will not be the first to interview Riddick, however. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Riddick is currently in Houston interviewing for the Texans’ GM vacancy.

Riddick will be the Lions’ first external candidate interviewed for the job. Although, the Lions have reported interest in both Jerry Reese and Rick Smith. Per Dave Birkett, an interview with Smith will happen “likely next week.”
