Friday open thread: How would you feel if the Lions cheated to win a Super Bowl?

The NFL Combine is up and running, but another story has been taking over the sports world recently. Over the past few months, more and more details have emerged regarding the Houston Astros cheating scandal which saw the team illegally use technology to steal signs from opposing catchers and relay that information to batters through various methods, including banging trash cans in the dugout to wearing buzzers under their jerseys.

While details are still emerging, it is clear that plenty of rule-breaking occurred. Players across the league are furious at MLB for not taking action and are publicly calling out various Astros players. Meanwhile, no one on the Houston side seems that remorseful, and fans are even more ardent in their support. The 2017 World Series will forever be marred in the eyes of the entire baseball community, but as of now, the record books will not be changed.

Today’s question of the day is:

How would you feel if the Lions cheated to win a Super Bowl?

My answer: This is tougher to answer than I first thought it would be. Most of me would be pretty disappointed if Detroit pulled off some elaborate scheme to hack into the opposing team’s microphones or something like that and used that advantage to win the title. Once that information became public, no one would respect the Super Bowl win or ever look favorably at the Lions going forward.

However...this team has suffered forever. Many of us have never experienced a playoff win — let alone a trophy — and no one can take away the memories lived during this type of run. The Astros won their title over two years ago and got to bask in that glory. Fans are completely in the wrong, but it is understandable why they are clinging so hard to the title. I think I would ultimately feel disappointed if this happened to the Lions, but I would not feel 100 percent negatively about it.
