Wednesday open thread: Who is your 2020 NFL Draft crush?

There are lots of top prospects available at #3; who do you want?

NFL Combine - Day 2

Now that the NFL Combine is over and we’re transitioning to individual school pro days, we’re seeing the picture clear up in terms of who are viable prospects for the Lions to consider at number three.

Prospects such as Jeff Okudah, Isaiah Simmons, and Mekhi Becton have all solidified their status as likely top-10 picks. Meanwhile, weaker Combine showings by players like Derrick Brown have caused pre-draft stock to take a tumble.

With the picture getting clearer, people are falling more and more in love with specific players for the Lions at #3 (or below? who knows).

Question of the day: Who is your draft crush for the Lions?

My answer: Jeff Okudah.

I know all the hype is around Chase Young, but I’m not going to bother getting my hopes up for him. Likewise, Matt Patricia failed to try to use Miles Killebrew in the overhang safety/linebacker role when he came to Detroit, which is what Killebrew was drafted for, so I don’t trust Patricia to maximize Simmons’ potential.

With Okudah, things are pretty clear cut. He’s a lockdown corner with terrific ball skills, fluid hips, and top-tier athleticism. Not to mention, he has the confidence (ego?) necessary to be an elite corner in the NFL. With his press-man style, he’s a perfect fit for Matt Patricia’s defense, and putting him across Darius Slay on the back end of the defense gives you at least one year of a top-tier cornerback duo, assuming Slay isn’t traded.

Best case scenario, you have Darius Slay, a much-progressed Amani Oruwariye, and a standout rookie Okudah shutting down opposing offenses.
