The Detroit Lions weren’t as nearly aggressive this offseason as they were last year when they went out and signed Trey Flowers and Justin Coleman to big money contracts.
And while I don’t think was too much overspending by the Lions so far, I am afraid of some overhyping.
Overall, I think the Lions had a solid free agency period, but no team gets everything right. So today’s Question of the Day is:
Which Detroit Lions free agency signing are you most worried about?
My answer: Jamie Collins Sr.
The easiest answer is probably Halapoulivaati Vaitai, given that he’s never been a full-time starter, but I’m going to go in a different direction.
I’m leery of the Lions adding Jamie Collins. On paper, the move makes a lot of sense. The Lions get a system guy who will obviously buy into the culture they’re trying to build. Collins also brings plenty of flexibility as a defender and is able to play multiple spots across the Lions defensive front.
The biggest problem I have is that the Lions are depending on an older veteran to play a key role on defense. While the Lions are hoping the best days are ahead of a player like Vaitai, Collins may have already peaked as an NFL player.
He definitely has an opportunity to help the Lions improve, but relying on Collins to be a major contributor is a risky proposition heading into 2020.
Your turn.
