If the Detroit Lions don’t trade down with the Miami Dolphins in the actual NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers are the next most-likely candidate. They could be a team hungry for a quarterback, seeing as they didn’t add one in free agency and let Philip Rivers walk all the way to Indy.
But they’re also a bit of a wildcard. After such a disappointing season the Chargers could go in any direction with their first-round pick.
So to help provide some clarity in our Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, we let commenter Kahuna70 take the wheel of the Chargers franchise.
With the sixth overall pick in the POD Community Mock, the Chargers have selected Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah. Here’s Kahuna70 explaining their pick:
“Just as the Detroit Lions could not turn their head away from a player that falls in their laps, neither could I. Okuda, the best press-man cornerback in the draft, adds to the building of the best defense in the NFL.
A defensive end combo of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram III only enhance the now-stacked defensive backfield of the recently signed Chris Harris Jr., the skilled second-year safety in Nasir Adderley, and, of course, the best of the group in Derwin James if he rebounds to anything close to what he was pre-injury .
I trust Tyrod Taylor as a quarterback that will not lose games that the defense will keep them in. Recent free agent signings on the offensive line dampen the need to go big there, although I strongly considered an offensive tackle.
This Chargers defense is possibly now No. 1 in the NFL.”
