With just one day remaining in the NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions have added four new players, all at big positions of needs. It’s been a pretty successful time for them considering all of the holes they started with and they still have four more selections left, barring any more trades. Let’s take a look at some names that hey could target at some of their remaining positions of need.
Defensive tackle
1. Leki Fotu
2. Rashard Lawrence
3. Raequan Williams
4. Benito Jones
With a run on defensive tackles in the third round, the Lions are left with scraps to choose from if they’d like to beef up their interior defensive line. Fotu is still a big possibility and a great fit as he’s a big-bodied guy that can stuff the run and fill some gaps. Raequan Williams is a versatile defender with ties to Michigan State, but at this point in the draft, you’re just throwing darts on the board.
Wide receiver
1. Gabriel Davis
2. Tyler Johnson
3. James Proche
4. Trishton Jackson
5. K.J. Hill
The Lions still have several decent Day 3 options at wide receiver and it all depends on whether they’d like to get a big-bodied Marvin Jones replacement, or someone with slot experience, like Hill or Proche. Both Hill and Proche are fairly unathletic, but very reliable options in the slot. Davis and Johnson fit the mold of receivers that the Lions often like to target. They have the size and contested catch ability that they really like. Trishton Jackson is a former Michigan State product that I also would like the Lions to take on as a project in the later rounds.
Best of the rest
P Braden Mann
P Michael Turk
CB Amik Robertson
CB Bryce Hall
CB Josiah Scott
CB Thakarius Keyes
CB Reggie Robinson II
TE Harrison Bryant
TE Albert Okwuegbunam
S J.R. Reed
LB Joe Bachie
EDGE Curtis Weaver
EDGE Bradlee Anae
EDGE Jason Strowbridge
EDGE Kenny Willekes
There are still some very talented players available heading into Day 3 with some positions a bit more stacked than others. They Lions may be hard pressed to find someone that can contribute right away at any of these positions, but if they want to double dip at a position like cornerback, they could get great value and have a guy like Reggie Robinson II develop into a long-term project for them.
Also, despite already addressing their need for an edge rusher, two really good fits at JACK linebacker that were thought to be Day 2 picks are both still available in Weaver and Anae. The Lions also have the option to grab their starting punter in the fifth or sixth round and address one of their biggest remaining needs.
