A few weeks ago, The Athletic hosted an interview between Detroit Lions defensive end Romeo Okwara and Detroit Lions fans. One fan asked Okwara about a potential brother reunion, if the Lions were to draft Notre Dame defensive end Julian Okwara. The question: “will you charge him rent to stay at your place?”
“I’ll charge him his signing bonus lol,” Romeo responded.
Well, it may be time for Julian to pay off, because the Lions made the dream come true Friday night after selecting Julian with the 67th overall pick.
“It’s awesome,” Julian told Detroit media regarding playing with his brother. “I’ve always dreamed about this, so it’s definitely a dream come true. I’m pretty much speechless. I’m still kind of letting it marinate, think about it tonight and probably will wake up tomorrow and really let it sit in.”
Film crews were on site with the Okwaras when the moment happened, and it produced some amazing content.
An overwhelmed, emotional Julian couldn’t hold back the tears as he talked to Lions representatives. But as soon as the call was over, his grin got as wide as can be, as he turned to his brother and said, “We about to be roommates.”

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that amongst the draft grades and analysis, there’s an incredible human story happening behind the scenes. This is just one of hundreds of triumphant stories this weekend, but it’s got to be one of the best.
Congratulations to the Okwara brothers. Now let’s get it!
