The Detroit Lions have added another piece to their offensive arsenal by drafting Wisconsin receiver Quintez Cephus. Here’s how he’ll fit into the lineup:
Player selected: Quintez Cephus
Position: WR
Current players on roster at WR:
- Geronimo Allison
- Danny Amendola
- Victor Bolden
- Geremy Davis
- Travis Fulgham
- Kenny Golladay
- Marvin Hall
- Marvin Jones Jr.
- Tom Kennedy
- Chris Lacy
Offseason losses at WR:
- Jermaine Kearse
Impact:
The Lions receivers had great production in 2019 given the poor quarterback play, with Golladay, Jones, and Amendola providing solid stats. However, given their contracts expiring in the near future, depth and insurance was needed.
Cephus should challenge for the fourth spot in the receiving corps, with slot being his likeliest position. Of the remaining receivers on the team, a majority of them are special teamers or on the roster bubble. Marvin Hall was the most explosive of them, and his role of speedster is probably safe. Fulgham, last year’s sixth-round pick, will face heavy competition from Cephus.
New Detroit Lion Jeff Okudah mentioned that Cephus was the toughest receiver he faced. Let’s hope he can live up to those expectations.
