We have now moved out of the top 10 in our Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, and the New York Jets are on the clock. Commenter SUHFARGONE will act as Jets general manager, hoping to finally take advantage of a weakened New England Patriots team in the AFC East.
After a 7-9 season in 2019, New York could be poised to make a move this season. They’ve had an active offseason, but they’ll need to knock out the draft to really threaten for a title.
Here is SUHFARGONE with the 11th pick in the draft.
“The selection for the New York Jets is CeeDee Lamb, Wide Receiver, University of Oklahoma.
The Jets enter the draft with quite a few holes to fill, and plenty of room for improvement on both sides of the ball. Their needs include OL, WR, EDGE, and DB. Their top priority should be protecting Sam Darnold better and surrounding him with talent to help him succeed.
I really wanted an OT here, but the run on the position just before my pick made that decision for me ( Thanks a lot, guys....). In the absence of a clear upgrade for the offensive line, and the top remaining options at EDGE and CB being underwhelming (for this high of a pick), I went with the next best option.
CeeDee Lamb is an elite college prospect with very few negatives to his game. As a matter of fact, the only gripes I could find on him was his perceived lack of long speed. He ran a 4.50 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, which is plenty fast (DeAndre Hopkins ran a 4.57). I selected him over Jerry Jeudy here because I think he will be a better fit with Darnold. Lamb is consistently ranked in the top 15 among all 2020 college prospects, with many putting him in the top 10.
He does everything a WR is expected to at the NFL level, including run blocking (although there are some who question his effort there). There are other WRs in this class who may be faster or more polished route runners, but nobody has as complete of a skill set as Lamb.
The best part is his ceiling. He’s only 20 years old, has improved every season at Oklahoma, and is already being compared to Odell Beckham Jr. (although he’s a little bigger than OBJ). He has a high motor and is a threat to score every time he touches the ball.

He posted a good #RAS with good size, good speed, good explosiveness, at the WR position.https://t.co/UHTzh3sQ0d pic.twitter.com/Hbz3eBdb3l
While Lamb’s RAS score isn’t mind blowing, there are no glaring weaknesses here either. Lamb appears in the RAS as he appears on film, a well-rounded prospect who is good at everything with few holes in his game.
In the end, this was a pretty easy pick, (after I got done cursing out the Cardinals, Jaguars, and Browns GMs for stealing all the OTs), and one I am sure Jets fans would be happy with in the absence of said tackles.”
