While the San Francisco 49ers’ 2019 season came to an end with ultimate disappointment, the team announced to the league to that they’re a force to be reckoned with after destroying the NFC with a 13-3 year.

Now the Niners have a good opportunity to reload talent, as they hold the 13th pick following a trade of DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts. How will they use said pick? We tapped Pride of Detroit commenter Son of Sparticus to act as general manager in our Pride of Detroit Community Mock.

With the 13th pick in the POD Mock, the 49ers select Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. Here’s the explanation.

“Former Lions GM Martin Mayhew, now a senior personnel executive for the 49ers, and his San Francisco squad shocked the NFL world in 2019. Their meteoric rise took them from worst to first in the NFC West, going 4-12 to 13-3. While each season brings new and unique challenges to this ongoing game of human tetris that we call the NFL, a solid consensus has developed in regards to the biggest need for our old friend Martin and Co: Wide receiver.

Fortunately for them, the 2020 NFL Draft has just what the doctor ordered. While not having a Megatron level talent, this year’s draft may provide as deep a WR pool as we’ve ever seen. Three top end guys have emerged; CeeDee Lamb, Henry Ruggs III, and Jerry Jeudy. In the end, I was (literally) left with one clear choice. And thus, with the 13th pick in the 2020 POD Community Mock Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select Jerry Jeudy, WR Alabama.

The 49ers lost over 500 yards of productivity through the air when Emmanuel Sanders signed with the Saints this offseason. The four remaining WR not named Debo Samuel provided a whopping total of 983 yards combined! Drafting an explosive outside threat like Jeudy to pair with Samuel and George Kittle at tight end would give them an entirely new dimension. He would force defenses to pick their poison and make their already lethal, counter-cultural ground ‘n pound game even more effective. Bringing Jeudy into the fold would finally give Jimmy G the fire-power to go toe to toe with the elite QBs and high octane offenses.

Jerry Jeudy is a master route runner. Translation: he gets open... a lot (see 2020 Citrus bowl vs. Michigan). He has sure hands and knows when to break off a route, working back to a QB in trouble. And while he isn’t the YAC monster that Lamb is, nor does he possess the world-class speed of Ruggs III, he’s the most complete and most polished of the three.

Mature and professional, this kid will hit the ground running. No pun intended. I did give very serious consideration to taking Javon Kinlaw, the stellar IDL and Senior Bowl sensation, especially given they just traded away starting DT DeForest Bunker for this pick. However, in the end, adding a weapon like Jerry Jeudy to a team desperately needing playmakers proved to be an easy decision.”
