Let's Play a Game: Going on the Record

Everyone has opinions on what the Lions should do each year in the draft. Many put together mock-drafts and post them in their signature. There have been dozens, if not over a hundred, draft-related FanPosts. I've even seen a couple "What the Lions should've done" signatures as well. Obviously, the draft is a big deal around these parts.

Now that the draft has had a few weeks to settle in everyone's mind, I thought it would be fun to throw out a good-natured challenge. It's time to put your (non-existent) money where your (virtual) mouth is. I'm inviting you, PoD faithful, to call your shots on the record: Who is going to make it from this class, and who isn't?

How to Play:

1. Participants will choose players from each round whom they believe will become successful draft picks for the teams that drafted them. This is tricky, as we all have our own opinions on what "successful" means. Success can be broken down many ways, but in general:

-1st Rounders: Long-term starter, top 15 at position. (Last 2 examples: Taylor Decker, Ndamukong Suh)

-2nd Rounders: Long term starter. (Darius Slay, Louis Delmas)

-3rd-5th Rounders: Eventual starter/contributor. (Kenny Golladay, Graham Glasgow)

-6th-7th Rounders: Depth on the team for at least 3 years. (Quandre Diggs, Theo Riddick)

If you disagree with my criteria but still want to play, just add your criteria for success when you make your comment.

2. Participants should choose the following number of players from each round they feel will be successful:

-1st Round: 7

-2nd Round: 6

-3rd Round: 5

-4th Round: 4

-5th Round: 3

-6th Round: 2

-7th Round: 1

The player you are most confident about should be listed first for each round. If you'd like to offer some reasoning behind your pick as well, that'd be great. Maybe it's more about the opportunity or the scheme fit than about the talent!

3. Finally, we're predicting busts as well. For this game, we're going to limit busts to the first two rounds. You've got to name at least 5 players taken in the first two rounds that you think will not live up to expectations. Personally, my picks will be guys I think won't make it to the fourth year of their rookie contract with the team they were drafted by. Feel free to list more if you are feeling confident, and again, offer any reasoning you'd like.

Who should play?

Anyone who has complained about or defended this draft class is encouraged to participate. Those displaying draft-related signatures are especially encouraged. I'd also invite and appreciate anyone on the PoD staff who wrote draft-related content to throw their two cents in as well.

I'd love to be able to come back to this in 11 months when we are all arguing about who the right draft picks are and see who knows what they're talking about. It's always fun to have some bragging rights, and in a community like this I think we can give each other some friendly teasing as well without getting too upset. I'll throw my own predictions in the comments as well to get things rolling.
