The leaks of the Detroit Lions’ 2020 schedule are already starting to come out, and the first to drop is an exciting one. Despite earlier reports that the Lions would open up with four straight AFC opponents, Danny Parkins of Chicago sports radio 670 is reporting that Detroit will host the Chicago Bears for Week 1 of the NFL season.
This would be a pretty special opening to the season for Lions fans, because it will be the first time Detroit opens with a divisional opponent since 2013, when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings 34-24. The last time these two teams met in a season opener was 2010. Yep, that’s the infamous Calvin Johnson “process of the catch” game.
In addition to this rumor, Parkins is also reporting that Week 17 will feature Bears vs. Packers. Assuming the NFL holds their tradition of only having divisional games for the final week of the season, that means Detroit will finish out the year against the Minnesota Vikings. However, it’s unclear if that game will be in Detroit or Minnesota.
