With the schedule now officially out, the Detroit Lions’ focus turns to their Week 1 game against the Chicago Bears. Okay, maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves a little bit here with training camp and the preseason still far ahead of us, but for a team that preaches one week at a time, the goal is clear: Get to 1-0 after their season opener against the Bears.
And according to the early Vegas odds, the Lions are favorites to win that season opener. Depending on your oddsmaker of choice, the Lions have opened up as anywhere between 1 and 1.5-point favorites in Week 1.
However, typically odd-setting behavior gives the home team around a three-point advantage, meaning while the Lions are favored, it’s clear Vegas expects a good amount of action on the Bears from bettors.
Week 1 has not been kind to the Lions as of late, though. The Lions were six-point favorites over the Jets in 2018 before getting blown out by New York on “Monday Night Football.” Last year, the Lions were 2.5-point favorites over the Cardinals, then proceeded to tie with them.
Hopefully, this is the year they finally get off to a good start and put that opening line to shame.
