Pride of Detroit Video Game Week: Charity Drive schedule

Want to play some games with the POD staff, talk Lions football, and raise some money to help the community? Here’s how:

This week’s theme across SB Nation is Video Games. Video games and sports have been linked since the inception of video games, and the bond remains incredibly strong today. Just think about how hyped everyone gets about the release of Madden every year, despite the fact that the game has barely changed in the past decade.

So to celebrate this week, we’re going to be chatting about the Detroit Lions every day of the week on our Twitch page while playing some video games. You can be a part of it by joining us in the games, asking us questions in the chat room, or simply just watching us get destroyed in games we’re probably too old to be playing.

Here’s the schedule we plan on following for the week, along with the games we’ll be playing.

Monday, June 1 — 7 p.m. ET - 11 p.m. ET: Fortnite
Tuesday, June 2 — 7-11 p.m ET: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Wednesday, June 3 — 7-11 p.m. ET: Rocket League
Thursday, June 4 —7-11 p.m. ET: Street of Rage 4
Friday, June 5 —7-11 p.m. ET: TBD (Maybe some Jackbox games, GTA, or viewer’s choice)

In addition to this, we aren’t going to ignore the pain and suffering happening in our communities right now. During all five streams this week, we will be raising funds for two charities: The Know Your Rights Camp—which aims “to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, self-empowerment, mass-mobilization and the creation of new systems that elevate the next generation of change leaders”—and Feeding America, who offers support to food banks during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are committed to serving communities and individuals facing hunger across America, wherever they are. Every dollar raised from the COVID-19 response fund will be used to get food and funds to local food banks across the U.S.

Here’s how you can get involved.

1. Watch us live on our Twitch page: twitch.tv/prideofdetroit

No downloads required. Create a free profile and you can chat with us as we play game and answer live questions. Or don’t create a profile, and just watch us get pwned.

2. Want to play with us? Join our discord and tell us!

Discord is a free program you can download on your computer, and it’s just another forum where you can discuss the Lions. It’s also a great platform to audio chat while gaming. So if you want to play with us, make sure you have discord so that we can talk to each other while playing.

Here’s more information in Discord, including download links.

And here’s an invitation to join the official Pride of Detroit discord.

3. Donate

While watching, you can directly help our communities. Here’s how the donation process will work:

  • Every subscription to our Twitch channel = $5 donation

At the end of the week, I will tally up every donation we get, and personally donate $5 per subscription. Here are instructions on how to subscribe to our Twitch channel and/or gift subscriptions to others.

  • Donate to the channel

You can also donate directly to our Twitch channel here, and I will then split the donation between the two charities above.

  • Donate directly to the causes

Skip the middleman and go directly to the websites and donate. You can donate to The Know Your Right Cause here, and Feeding America here. Please send proof of your donation either to our Twitter page or my email prideofdetroitjeremy[at]gmail.com. I only want to do this to keep track of how much money we raised. No need to include personal information if you don’t desire.

All donations sent to us will be split evenly among both charities.

Back in April, we raised nearly $1,000 for local COVID-19 relief. I would love to see us top that goal this month!
