Thursday open thread: Will any Lions player get double-digit sacks in 2020?

It’s been awhile since the Lions had a premier pass rusher.

The Detroit Lions haven’t had a player with 10 or more sacks since Ezekiel Ansah did it way back in 2017. Last year the Lions’ pass rush was pathetic. The Lions cut ties with their sack co-leader from last year, Devon Kennard after back-to-back seven sack seasons.

Trey Flowers, who also had seven sacks, returns as the Lions’ top pass rusher in 2020.

Other than Kennard and Flowers, no other player notched more than two sacks, and no other defensive lineman had two or more.

In fact, no player has even cracked eight sacks in a season since Matt Patricia took over as head coach. But that is sort of how the Patriots run their system. No Patriots player has gotten double-digit sacks since Chandler Jones did it in 2015.

So, that brings us to today’s question of the day:

Will any Lions player get double-digit sacks in 2020?

Yes. Trey Flowers.

The odds probably aren’t in my favor with this guess given the Lions’ track record in recent years, but I do see a glimmer of hope.

Flowers only had three sacks over the last eight games, but he had 13 quarterback hits over that time period. If he can turn some of those hits into sacks in 2020, he should have no problem breaking 10 sacks .

Your turn.
