It’s been a while since we’ve heard from former Detroit Lions great Calvin Johnson. Sure, we’ve seen quotes from him about the sour ending to his time in Detroit. And, yes, we’ve seen him do a random podcast or video interview here and there.
But we’ve never really seen a sit-down, intimate interview with Megatron since his sudden retirement after the 2015 season.
However, on Wednesday night, fans will get the opportunity to listen to Johnson live as former Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin interviews him on his new YouTube show “The DB Room.”
I know what you’re thinking. “Why would I want to watch Calvin Johnson slam the Lions again for an entire hour?”
Well, if you’ve watched any of the episodes of “The DB Room” yet, you’d know that this isn’t really about that. Quin has already hosted several former (and disgruntled) Lions players—including Darius Slay and Quandre Diggs—and there has been almost no talk about their frustrations with the Lions organization. Instead, Quin asks the players about their journey from childhood to making their dreams come true in the NFL.
Throughout his time in Detroit, Calvin Johnson remained somewhat of an enigma. He was always very short with the media and didn’t seem to have much of an interest in the spotlight. So a personal interview like this with a player that already knows him well could give us a peek into Johnson’s life that we never really got when he was playing for the Lions.
As of now, there is no announced time for the interview, but previous installments of “The DB Room” have been recorded between 7-9 p.m. ET. You can follow the YouTube series here or get updates via their Instagram page here. You can also submit questions for Johnson by direct messaging the Instagram account (chosen questions receive a signed photo of Quin).
And if you want to catch up on previous episodes, just about all of them are of interest to Lions fans:
- Darius Slay (Part 1, Part 2)
- Jeff Okudah
- Kareem Jackson
- Quandre Diggs
- Golden Tate
