TONIGHT: Join Pride of Detroit’s Karaoke Night for charity

Maybe you’ve noticed, maybe you haven’t, but we’ve been a little light on content this week. Part of that is because there just isn’t a lot of football to talk about right now. Part of that is because football doesn’t seem all that important right now.

Another reason is because myself and our staff have been busy with our week-long charity drive. Every day of this week, we’ve been streaming on our Twitch page from 7-11 p.m. ET, helping raise funds for two charities: the Know Your Rights Camp and Feeding America.

The purpose of these streams were to both give us some time to rest, relax, have some fun, but to also make sure we are staying active and helping those in need these days. Feeding America has several different programs that focus on the starving and malnutritioned populations, which has an increased need during the current pandemic. The help fund and stock food banks across the country. Meanwhile, Know Your Rights Camp is aimed at educating and supporting black and brown communities to help “advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities.” They also have a separate relief fund for COVID-19.

Through five nights of streaming, we’ve raised $2,792.

Now it’s time for grand finale.

On Saturday night, the Pride of Detroit staff, along with fellow readers, listeners and watchers, will be doing Karaoke all night, while still raising money for both charities. Here’s how you can get involved:

How to sing with us:

1. Create a Twitch account
2. Download Twitch Sings
3. Go through their song list and pick some songs you’d like to sing
4. When we go live at 7 p.m. ET, comment in our Twitch chat room that you’d like to sing, and we’ll bring you on our virtual stage.

How to donate:

There are three different ways you can donate to these causes.

1. Subscribe to our Twitch channel = $5 donation

At the end of the week, I will tally up every donation we get, and personally donate $5 per subscription ($2.50 for each charity). Here are instructions on how to subscribe to our Twitch channel and/or gift subscriptions to others.

2. Donate to the channel

You can also donate directly to our Twitch channel here, and I will then split the donation between the two charities above.

3. Donate directly to the causes

Skip the middleman and go directly to the websites and donate. You can donate to The Know Your Right Camp here, and Feeding America here. Please send proof of your donation either to our Twitter page or my email prideofdetroitjeremy[at]gmail.com. I only want to do this to keep track of how much money we raised. No need to include personal information if you don’t desire. The perks of this route is that you can get tax breaks by donating directly, and you can pick which charity you prefer.
