According to ProFootballTalk, the NFL has decided to cancel two preseason games. The two games that are reportedly cancelled are Week 1 and Week 4 of the preseason.
For the Detroit Lions, that means preseason won’t begin until Thursday, August 20, when they host the New York Jets on national television via ESPN. The following week, they’ll travel to Miami to play the Dolphins.
The games that are reportedly cancelled are Week 1 against the New England Patriots and Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.
As of last week, the NFL told teams to still prepare for training camp to begin on time at the end of the month. Combined with the cancelling of two weeks of preseason, the NFL is hoping to have a longer ramp-up period where teams can slowly ease back into the swing of things considering the time lost during OTA and minicamp cancellations.
Per ProFootballTalk, we can expect an official announcement from the league by Thursday.
