Quintez Cephus wasn’t the only Detroit Lions draft pick to put pen to paper on Wednesday. Lions fifth-round pick Jason Huntley also signed his rookie contract, per his Instagram page.
“It’s official,” Huntley wrote in his post, followed by the hashtags #FamilyTies #OnePride.
The former New Mexico State running back will now enter a heated running back competition that includes second-round pick D’Andre Swift, 2018 second-round pick Kerryon Johnson, Bo Scarbrough and Ty Johnson.
Huntley brings incredible athleticism and speed to the Lions, and could even be in play for the returner job. At New Mexico State, Huntley tallied five kick return touchdowns in four years. In addition to running back duties, Huntley was also a threat as a receiver, pulling in at least 39 catches in each of his final three college seasons.
With Huntley and Cephus now under contract, there are only two more draft picks that need to sign: first-round pick Jeff Okudah and seventh-round pick Jashon Cornell.
