For a season in which they didn’t have a huge coaching overall, the Detroit Lions did some serious work with their roster this year. Gone are some of the bigger names this team had, but the Lions went out and replaced them with some fresh faces via both free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft. And, finally, after months and months and months of waiting, we’re about to see these new players in a Lions uniform for the first time.

Saturday, players who have cleared three consecutive COVID-19 tests will enter the Allen Park training facility for the first time this year. While the day will mostly just consist of physicals, training camp workouts and practices are just around the corner. It’s only a matter of time until we get our first look at what these players will look like on the Detroit Lions team for the 2020 season.

So today’s Question of the Day is:

Which new Lions player will be the most exciting at training camp?

My answer: While third overall pick Jeff Okudah is the easy answer here, I’m most fascinated by how Jamie Collins Sr. will fit on this defense. He’s such a versatile piece and familiar presence in this defense, that the sky is the limit with him.

He has the potential of making everyone around him better simply by freeing them up to do whatever they’re good at. However, we have to know exactly what the Lions’ plans are with Collins before we go proclaiming that this is the year Jarrad Davis’ talents are finally realized or that Jahlani Tavai will have his breakout season.

Collins can play anywhere from jack linebacker to the mike. But are the Lions going to start by having him fixed to one position, or are they going to be constantly moving him—and thereby, everyone else—around? To me, that’s one of the more fascinating situations surrounding not only this defense, but the entire team.

I’ve been waiting nearly five months since they’ve signed the guy to see how they plan on using him, and it’ll be the first thing I’ll be watching for when they actually end up taking the field.

Your turn.
