The Detroit Lions didn’t provide any highlights from Day 1 of training camp (yet?), but they did offer something else unique during their live broadcast from Monday. Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell was mic’d up for one of their indoor practice sessions over the past week or so, and it provided a pretty neat look into his personality on the field, his relationship with the players, and his apparent love for the song “All The Way Up.”
Also sprinkled within the mic’d up session are a few fun highlights, including a one-handed touchdown grab by tight end T.J. Hockenson that had the rest of the team roaring, and a bullet from Chase Daniel to rookie Quintez Cephus.
A couple moments stand out as my favorite among the four-minute video. First, there was the goal line drill with pushups on the line. After the rollout throw from Daniel to Ty Johnson was successful, Bevell turned to an incredulous Kerryon Johnson, who screamed, “Every time! How does it work?”
Then there was the humorous off-topic conversation with Matthew Stafford about how the 32-year-old quarterback was much more capable of handling technology today than he was leading on.
