Despite being just one week into training camp, we’re only three weeks removed from the start of the 2020 NFL season. Real, actual football is creeping up on us, and it’s very hard to project how anything will play out. All we have to go on right now is the observations from training camp from those that are able to attend, but there has been some encouraging storylines surfacing so far.
The Lions made strides throughout the offseason to patch up their holes on defense and are looking to build off of their offensive success from last year. So far there seems to be plenty of great competition across all of their position groups.
Today’s Question of the Day is:
What position group are you most excited about heading into the season?
My answer: The secondary was absolutely terrible last year, but this ,year I’m very excited to see what they can do. The safeties are looking pretty solid on paper and from what we’re hearing, it looks like they’re having a pretty good start to camp too. But the cornerbacks are really what’s going to make or break this team in my opinion (aside from the defensive line creating pressure), and I think the Lions have the most talent and depth we’ve seen in a long time, so I’m really excited about that in particular.
Even if Jeff Okudah struggles to start the year, I think Amani Oruwariye is very capable as a starting cornerback, and these young corners are in a very good situation learning from an experienced veteran like Desmond Trufant.
Let’s hear from you.
