My freshman year of high school I sucked at football. I was a chubby, 5-foot-8 and 145 pounds, and coaches didn’t really know where to put me. I was thrown around everywhere from tight end to linebacker to center to fullback to scout team punt returner.
Late in the season, our centers went down and, being the only one who could snap decently, my chubby-yet-undersized self was thrown into the gauntlet. By sophomore year I bulked up and became starting center at 6-foot, 185.
Nowadays I’m a puntaholic—player, coach, analyst, and more. It’s been a wild ride but to display that craft at the highest level possible would be a dream come true.
Question of the day: If you could play any position in the NFL, what would it be?
If punter were off the table, I think safety would be fun to try. What would you choose? Let us know in the comments.
