Lions injury report: Golladay doubtful, Vaitai OUT vs. Bears

The Lions will be without at least one starter on offense to start the year.

The final injury report for the Detroit Lions is out, and it’s not particularly promising.

Star wide receiver Kenny Golladay is DOUBTFUL to play against the Chicago Bears, while starting right tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai has already been declared out.

Golladay suffered a hamstring injury on Wednesday, and did not practice on Thursday nor Friday.

Earlier on Friday, head coach Matt Patricia said they’re trying to be extra careful with soft-tissue injuries like that of Golladay. But he seemed to suggest his injury could cause him to sit for a week or two, in order to prevent a longer-term injury.

“We’re trying to prevent them from being long-term type of soft-tissue injuries,” Patricia said. “So even if we get guys that are tight, that may be on the milder side, maybe a seven-, 10-, 14-day type stuff, we’re trying to prevent the four-week type of injury there.”

As for Vaitai, his foot injury has also kept him out of practice for the past two days. Backup Tyrell Crosby is expected to start on Sunday. Crosby started five games last season.

If there’s some good news here, it’s that rookie running back D’Andre Swift was a full participant in Friday’s practice and was not given an injury designation. He’ll play on Sunday, though it’s not clear what his role will be now that Adrian Peterson is on the team.

It appears the Chicago Bears will be down at least one key player, as well. Free agent addition Robert Quinn is doubtful after missing all three practices this week. Quinn was added to bring more pass rush opposite Khalil Mack (also listed as Questionable), but if he can’t go, it could be huge for the Lions, who appear likely to be without their starting right tackle.
