Rowe Report: The 5 stages of watching a Detroit Lions season opener

Week 1 - Chicago Bears

Detroit Lions fans are still reeling after a gut-wrenching loss to the Chicago Bears this past Sunday, squandering a 17-pt lead and collapsing in the fourth quarter.

Looking back, you had to know something was going to a little wonky when in the first half the Lions made national news for *checks notes* rhinoing a ref.

For many Detroit fans, this season opener felt ... familiar. In just the past few years, the Lions lost to the New York Jets and rookie quarterback Sam Darnold’s first game in the NFL. Then the following year, the Lions blew a lead to the Arizona Cardinals and settled on a tie ... in rookie quarterback Kyler Murray’s first game in the NFL.

The highs and lows felt so familiar this past weekend that psychologists have identified this phenomenon as: the five stages of watching a Lions season opener.
