Wednesday open thread: Will the loss of Nick Bawden change the Lions’ plan on offense?

The Lions placed Bawden on IR earlier this week.

NFL: Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions announced earlier this week that they would be placing fullback Nick Bawden on injured reserve. It’s the third time in three years that Bawden has ended up there since the Lions drafted him out of San Diego State in the seventh round.

Question of the day: Will the loss of Nick Bawden change how the Lions run their offense?

My answer: Not in the slightest.

The last couple weeks we’ve seen someone else get fullback reps in training camp—linebacker Jason Cabinda. Reports out of Allen Park are that he was able to hold his own and has solid hands, too. Between that and his positional versatility, the writing was on the wall whether Bawden was injured or not. We all know Matt Patricia is a sucker for positional versatility.

With the third trip to IR, we just might have seen the last of Nick Bawden in a Lions jersey. What are your thoughts? Let us know below.
