The Detroit Lions roster cuts down to a 53-man roster continue. The latest player to be waived is linebacker Anthony Pittman, according to ESPN’s Michael Rothstein.
This offseason, the Lions made a concerted effort to get more experienced at the linebacker level. After drafting the likes of Jahlani Tavai, Julian Okwara and Jarrad Davis, Detroit added Jamie Collins Sr. and Reggie Ragland to bring some experience and leadership to the position group. That left a player like Pittman with a tough route to the final roster.
However, Pittman spent last year on Detroit’s practice squad and there’s a good chance he lands there again this season. At 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, he’s the body type of linebacker the Lions like, and he could become a developmental player capable of special teams and depth in the future.
As of this publishing, the Lions roster is down to 71 players, 18 players over the 53-man roster limit for 4 p.m. ET. You can track all the roster moves here.
