On Sunday, the Detroit Lions signed 16 players to their practice squad for the 2020 season. Of course, this is anything but the final practice squad for the team, as general manager Bob Quinn loves to tool with the squad during the entirety of the NFL season.
This year, teams were allowed to carry vested veterans on the practice squad for the very first time, and the Lions took advantage of that by carrying two veterans: Kenny Wiggins and Jonathan Williams.
Unfortunately, one name you will not find on the Lions’ practice squad is Detroit’s fifth-round pick Jason Huntley, who did not clear waivers. The Philadelphia Eagles claimed Huntley, and he is now part of their 53-man roster.
Another interesting tidbit from this year’s practice squad: long snapper Steve Wirtel and punter Arryn Siposs both made it, suggesting Don Muhlbach and Jack Fox could be on short leashes if they struggle this year.
Here’s a look at the full 16-man squad, which includes no new players from other teams—simply just players they recently cut:
- QB David Blough
- G Beau Benzschawel
- G Kenny Wiggins
- WR Victor Bolden
- WR Tom Kennedy
- TE Isaac Nauta
- RB Jonathan Williams
- DT Frank Herron
- DT Kevin Strong
- DE Jonathan Wynn
- LB Anthony Pittman
- CB Dee Virgin
- S Jalen Elliott
- S Bobby Price
- P Arryn Siposs
- LS Steve Wirtel
