Practice squads are humongous this year - who’s your favorite?

NFL: Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

Practice squads are much bigger than usual this year. More importantly, anyone is eligible, whether you’re a rookie or in your last season before retirement. The Lions cut some notable names but brought a lot of them back, including Beau Benzschawel, Arryn Siposs, David Blough, Steven Wirtel, and more.

Question of the day: Which practice squad player are you most excited about?

My answer: I gotta go with David Blough.

It sounds like he made the backup quarterback spot a real battle during training camp. Any time you pay someone $13 million, though, you’re not gonna cut them—looking at you, Chase Daniel.

Blough essentially lost the job before the competition started, to no fault of his own. The Lions clearly like him, though, and he’s young and rapidly developing. I’m excited that the Lions were able to keep him around; he’ll likely be the future of the backup quarterback spot so long as this regime is still around.
