The Detroit Lions released their first injury report of the 2020 season on Wednesday, and it provided some half answers to a lot of questions fans have been asking since training camp.
Chief among their concerns is the status of rookie running back D’Andre Swift, who missed a couple weeks of practice during camp with an unspecified leg injury. Thanks to the injury report, we now know that he’s dealing with a hip injury. The good news, however, is that he participated in Wednesday’s practice, but in a limited capacity. At this point, his status is unknown, but with a healthy Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson, there is no hurry to get him involved.
Elsewhere, four starters are dealing with injuries that had them limited in Wednesday’s practice: Da’Shawn Hand (groin), Danny Amendola (hamstring), Kenny Golladay (hamstring), and Halapoulivaati Vaitai (foot).
It’s unclear how significant any of these injuries are, as we’ve seen all four of those players in and out of practice during training camp. However, the fact that none of them were OUT is a positive sign.
Two Lions players were designated as out, however: tight end Hunter Bryant (hamstring) and safety C.J. Moore (hamstring). Moore’s injury appears to be new, while Bryant hasn’t practiced for several weeks now.

The Chicago Bears, too, kick off Week 1 of practice with some notable injury issues. Newly-added edge rusher Robert Quinn missed Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury, while on the other side of the line, Khalil Mack was limited with a knee injury.
Many wondered about the status of starting running back David Montgomery after suffering a groin injury during training camp. He, too, was limited, but his teammate Tarik Cohen seemed to downplay the injury.
Bears RB Tarik Cohen on David Montgomery groin injury: “I feel like the injury was a bigger deal in the media than it really was here. He bounced back off of that so fast. It’s like it never happened.”
