Wednesday open thread: Would you approve of the Lions hiring Dan Campbell as head coach?

Campbell interviewed with the Lions on Monday.

New Orleans Saints v Cleveland Browns

The Lions have been all over the place with their head coaching interviews over the last couple weeks. On Monday, the team interviewed, New Orleans Saints Assistant Head Coach Dan Campbell.

The 44 year old is a rising star. Despite his young age, Campbell has head coaching exeperience from his time as Miami Dolphins interim head coach in 2015 after the team fired Joe Philbin. He’s also a former player, having ten years under his belt as a tight end for the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, and—you guessed it—the Detroit Lions. Many have compared Campbell to Mike Vrabel as a result.

Question of the day: Would you approve of the Lions hiring Dan Campbell as head coach?

My answer: anyone who is hailed as the next Mike Vrabel is an instant yes for me.

A young guy with former professional playing experience is bound to bring an attitude that is the antithesis of Matt Patricia’s to the locker room. Likewise, having head coaching experience plus five years under Sean Payton by the age of 44 is quite the resume.

I will say that I’m always a little wary of Saints assistants since the Joe Lombardi experience went sour, but Campbell, from what it sounds like, is the real deal. He isn’t my number one choice, but the more I hear about him the more I’m warming up to the idea.

Your turn.
