On Thursday, the Detroit Lions made a move that we all are hoping is finally the catalyst to turn around this cursed franchise. The hiring of former Rams director of college personnel Brad Holmes received mostly positive reviews throughout the media on Thursday... but these things almost always seem to be universally praised.
So our podcast crew assembled for a special Thursday night EMERGENCY PODCAST to weed through what we like about the hire, what we didn’t like and what it means for the future.
We go over Holmes’ impressive drafting resume, his solid character traits, but also the biggest concerns, like his lack of experience at general manager or on the pro personnel side of things. And how much of the Rams’ success is really on him vs. Sean McVay?
Some have called this hiring the next Bob Quinn, but I go into detail as to why I don’t think that’s the case.
Then we dive into how this hiring may impact Detroit’s head coaching search. Which candidates are now more likely to take the job? Which candidates may be falling out of favor?
Note: This podcast was recorded before Robert Saleh took the Jets job. So please ignore any Saleh takes.
