In addition to a busy week of general manager interviews, the Detroit Lions will also cram in their first set of head coaching interviews this week. According to MMBQ’s Albert Breer, the Lions will interview Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy on Monday, interim head coach Darrell Bevell on Tuesday and 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh on Thursday. Per Breer, they also plan on interviewing Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and Saints assistant head coach Dan Campbell next week.
All of these names are not surprising for the Lions head coaching vacancies, but Detroit isn’t the only team that will be targeting some of these coaches. The Falcons are interviewing both Saleh and Bieniemy on Monday. The Jets have put in a request to interview Bieniemy. The Texans are expected to make a run for Bieniemy, too.
It’s worth noting that Bieniemy and Saleh are getting a lot of attention this week because coaches of teams that will play in Wild Card weekend (see: Smith, Campbell) are not available to interview until after their playoff game. Meanwhile, Bieniemy is on a bye week, while Saleh’s 49ers are out of the playoffs.
