Here’s how to redeem your free beer courtesy of Matt Prater, Bud Light

Instructions on how to score a free six pack.

NFL: Washington Football Team at Detroit Lions Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

With the seasons of the Detroit Lions and the Denver Broncos now over, so ends the friendly competition between kickers Matt Prater and Brandon McManus. Before the 2020 season started, the two agreed to a season-long competition. With some help from Bud Light, the two agreed that whoever kicked the longest made field goal during the 2020 season would win their home team’s city free beer. Prater nailed a 59-yard field goal this year, while McManus’ longest kick was 58 yards.

So, Detroit, it’s time to collect your winnings.

Bud Light released the details of the promotion this week, and you can start grabbing your free beer starting today.

Here’s how it works:

First, between the dates of January 8 to January 31, purchase a six pack of Bud Light. Make sure to save the receipt and the UPC on the product itself. Then, head to this website right here, fill out the details and send pictures of the receipt and the UPC. You must submit your rebate request by February 14.

Now here’s the fine print part that tests the limit of “free beer.” In six-to-eight weeks, Bud Light will then compensate you up to $6.99... but with a prepaid Bud Light gift card. So it’s really more of a “buy one six-pack, get another one free” deal. Still, it’s technically free beer, and if you like Bud Light already, this won’t bother you at all.

Here’s some other fine print notes you should know:

  • You have to be 21 or older. Duh.
  • You have to be a Michigan resident.
  • 1 submission allowed per address
  • If you’re an employee of Anheuser-Busch or any affiliated companies/retailers, you are not eligible
