The Detroit Lions continue to protect Ryan Santoso from getting poached off the practice squad. The timing is interesting considering Austin Seibert just came back from the COVID-19 list to play on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, a game in which he went three for three including a 52-yard field goal.
Question of the day: Who should the Lions roll with at kicker?
My answer: Ryan Santoso
I really haven’t seen enough to have any inclination towards one or the other, with one exception. Ryan Santoso made a go-ahead field goal in the clutch in a big game against the Baltimore Ravens. To step in with a new team and execute that well takes a lot of mental toughness, something that’s very valuable in specialists.
The Lions thought highly enough of Santoso to have him around in preseason several years ago, and now he’s making the rounds of NFL teams with the Lions being his latest stop. Given the Lions’ inclination to protect him on the practice squad, I wouldn’t be surprised if he steps in the first occurrence of Seibert struggling.
