As we are all aware, the Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions traded quarterbacks at the start of the year. The taking of Jared Goff came with quite a haul of draft pick, but let’s set that aside from now: the story is one of trading places, fortunes and all the rest.
For Matthew Stafford, the trade placed him in Los Angeles, and in a spot to win games, and maybe win games in the NFL playoffs. So far out of the gate, the Rams have taken well to their new quarterback—Cooper Kupp’s numbers are already thriving thanks to his connection with Stafford—and they’re roared out to a 5-1 record. While competition remains tight in the NFC West, the Rams are currently looking like front-runners and continue to look to do so.
Meanwhile, Jared Goff is coming off a game where he threw the ball away on fourth down, abysmal stat lines and all sorts of trouble. The Lions are winless and the offense is sputtering, and the offensive line is plagued by injuries to complicate matters.
Nevertheless, Goff seems to be the focus of a lot of the reunion talk, probably because the fallout from Los Angeles with coach Sean McVay is a bit more hot and radioactive. For Stafford, the split seemed amicable enough, although Detroit could honestly use someone of his skill at this point.
Acrimony and all the rest are in play on Sunday as the Lions travel to Los Angeles for this less-than-fateful matchup.
