Detroit Lions Week 7 inactives: Dean Marlowe, Jason Cabinda out vs. Rams

The Detroit Lions have declared their inactives ahead of a Week 7 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi stadium in beautiful California.

The Lions made a few roster moves this week. On Wednesday, they signed WR Geronimo Allison to the active roster, but with only 52-players on the roster at that time, a corresponding move wasn’t necessary. On Saturday, they elevated TE Brock Wright and S Jalen Elliott from the practice squad, bringing the active roster to 55 players entering Sunday’s game.

Because the Lions have eight offensive linemen active for Sunday’s game, they are eligible to expand their game-day roster from 46 to 48 players. Therefore, with 55 players available and 48 eligible to play, the Lions need to declare seven inactive for today’s matchup.

Here are those seven players:

Lions inactives:

  • RB Jermar Jefferson
  • FB Jason Cabinda (hip)
  • WR Trinity Benson
  • DL Eric Banks
  • EDGE Jesse Lemonier
  • CB Mark Gilbert
  • DB Dean Marlow

Jefferson was active for the first time last week, contributing on nine special teams snaps, but he has yet to make an offensive contribution this season as the Lions continue to roll only D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams as their running backs.

Cabinda was banged up this week and was listed as questionable entering this game. His absence could be a reason tight end Brock Wright was elevated from the practice squad for this game.

Benson was inactive last week for the first time since the Lions traded for him at cutdowns. With the Lions coaches wanting to give more opportunities to the youth on the roster, him being inactive is mildly surprising.

Banks has now been inactive for four consecutive games, and with D’Shawn Hand and Kevin Strong’s return to action on the horizon—they are both practicing but remain on injured reserve—his roster spots could be in jeopardy in the coming weeks.

Lemonier was called up to the active roster for EDGE insurance after Romeo Okwara landed on injured reserve, but with the four rostered EDGE player thriving right now, he finds himself inactive once again.

Gilbert has been with the team less than two weeks and the rookie likely needs more time to acclimate to the Lions. Right, now he appears to be an insurance option at corner and a player they want to develop.

Marlow being inactive is a surprise, as he has typically been the Lions' third option at safety. He was not on the injury report this week, so this appears to be sitting for performance reasons.

Rams inactives:

  • QB Bryce Perkins
  • LB Chris Garrett
  • OL Alaric Jackson
  • OL Tremayne Anchrum
  • TE Brycen Hopkins
  • DL Bobby Brown III
