NFL Week 8 gambling guide: Lions vs. Eagles best bets

It’s about to get real spooky in here.

NFL: Detroit Lions at Philadelphia Eagles Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

‘Tis the season for stuff to get real spooky, so let’s venture deep into the forbidden woods where same-game parlays are ripe for the picking... if you dare.

Week 8’s best bet for Philadelphia Eagles vs. Detroit Lions

Okay, so I’m no Vincent Price, and I don’t have the luxury of a fog machine because SB Nation’s budget won’t allow for it, but what they will do for you is provide the best odds that money can buy at DraftKings, the official betting sponsor of our network.

It’s Week 8 and the Detroit Lions are in search of their first win which, under normal circumstances, sounds like a nightmare, but Dan Campbell is serving up enough scares to opposing teams that his team is bound to bite at some point, right?

The Lions might be the national darling for a second week in a row after going punch for punch with the heavyweight title contender Los Angeles Rams, but things feel like they might be working Detroit’s favor as the listless, disheveled Philadelphia Eagles come to town for this Halloween matchup.

After Thursday’s chat with Bleeding Green Nation’s Brandon Lee Gowton—something definitely worth checking out to get you prepped for this weekend’s matchup—I feel like I have a better grip on what to expect from this Eagles team.

Miles Sanders, the team’s leading rusher, is on injured reserve, which puts the weight of that workload on Kenneth Gainwell—a fifth-round rookie from Memphis. Jalen Hurts isn’t lighting the world on fire this year, but then again, he hasn’t faced this Lions defense. But what Brandon put me onto was the Eagles most underrated/overlooked offensive weapon on Philly’s offense: Quez Watkins.

The Eagles primary slot receiver, Watkins will have a matchup against an injured AJ Parker or veteran Nickell Robey-Coleman, so I think that’s a matchup to lock in on. I’m going with over 49.5 receiving yards for Watkins to kick off this same-game parlay.

Next, I want to grab the hot hand, one D’Andre Swift to work his magic against some of the worst linebackers in the NFL. Grab D’Andre Swift anytime touchdown scorer at +140 to make this witches brew extra wicked.

Lastly, to cap it all off, an adjusted spread for the Lions to have a little cushion when it comes time for the witching hour—Lions +4.5—to give you the covering power in a game that will be a close one.

All of those ingredients in the pot yield a powerful punch: +480 odds on this same-game parlay.
